Winter Hair Care Tips with Sarah

Winter brings a unique set of challenges for hair and scalp health, with colder temperatures and indoor heating creating a perfect storm for dryness, frizz, and flakiness. With a few adjustments to our hair care routines, we can help our guests maintain healthy, vibrant hair all season long. Here are my top tips for keeping hair and scalp in top condition during winter months.

1. Alter Your Shampoo Frequency

For Oily Scalps
Oily scalps can actually become even oilier in winter due to indoor heat, but it’s important to avoid over-washing, which can strip essential oils. Our Sebum Balance Hair Bath is perfect for this, as it gently regulates sebum production, keeping the scalp balanced and refreshed without overdrying.

For Sensitive Scalps
Winter dryness can irritate sensitive scalps, so I recommend Soothing Hair Bath. Its formula provides moisture without stripping, calming dry or sensitive areas and giving gentle, effective cleansing.

For Balanced Scalps
For clients with a well-balanced scalp, Frequent Use Hair Bath is ideal. This mild, gentle cleanser can be used daily, keeping both scalp and hair clean and fresh while preserving natural oils.

2. Prioritize Scalp Care

A healthy scalp is the foundation of strong, beautiful hair. Regular scalp care, especially exfoliation, is essential to remove buildup and dead skin cells, which can otherwise cause itchiness and inhibit hair growth. I suggest using Herbs & Clay Peeling Cleanser with a blend of rosemary, peppermint, and lemon oils. This combination invigorates, soothes, and promotes circulation while clearing away impurities to create an ideal environment for healthy hair.

3. Moisture Maintenance

Winter air is much drier, which can sap moisture from hair, leaving it more prone to frizz and breakage. To combat this, focus on deeply hydrating products:

Hydrating Conditioners
For dry or damaged hair, I recommend our Moisturising Hair Mask, formulated with organic shea butter and murumuru butter to lock in deep hydration. It also helps repair and restore the hair structure. For colour-treated hair, the Colour Protection Hair Mask with argan oil and biodynamic red grapes keeps colour vibrant and adds an extra layer of nourishment.

4. Protective Styling and Heat Protection

During winter, protective styling can be a game changer, as it minimizes exposure to the elements and reduces breakage. For clients using heat styling tools, stress the importance of a quality heat protectant and lower temperature settings.

Leave-In Treatments
I recommend our No-Rinse Moist Conditioner, which is a wonderful way to add a moisture barrier and reduce frizz. For added protection, Thermo Detangling Cloud provides a heat-protective layer and hydration, making it ideal for clients using hot tools. Lastly, Glossy Nectar, rich in vitamins and proteins, is perfect for enhancing shine and strength while providing a smooth finish.

5. Nutrition and Hydration

Finally, a reminder to clients: good hair health starts from within. A diet rich in vitamins and minerals is essential, as is staying hydrated. Proper nutrition supports scalp and hair health, making hair more resilient to winter conditions.

With these tips, we can help our clients enjoy healthier, shinier hair through the colder months. Let's embrace winter with beautiful, well-nourished hair!
